Summary
Flour falling number (FN) is an important trait because not only related with pre-harvest sprouting (PHS) tolerance but also with processing quality. Waxy wheat usually has low flour falling number (FN) without severe pre-harvest sprouting (PHS). To identify quantitative trait loci (QTLs) associated with flour FN, a recombinant inbred line (RIL) population derived from two Chinese wheat, strong gluten wheat Gaocheng 8901 and waxy wheat Nuomai 1, was employed to evaluate the genetic variation and to detect QTLs based on DarT and SSR markers under three environments.

Summary
To assess the efficacy of near lethal heat stress for endodormancy release of Superior Seedless grapevine buds, single-node cuttings were soaked for 1 h in hot water (50°C) and then forced for one month. The effects of hot water treatment (HWT) on budburst, metabolic changes of carbohydrates, proline, free polyamines PAs [putrescine (Put), spermidine (Spd) and spermine (Spm)] and antioxidant enzymes activity were investigated in bud under forcing conditions. Near-lethal heat stress caused a transient increase in starch hydrolysis, leading to an abrupt accumulation of soluble sugars, especially sucrose concentration during the first 3 days after treatment.

Summary
High temperature is a major environmental stress factor limiting wheat productivity in India. Therefore, improvement for heat tolerance in wheat is an important breeding objective. A number of synthetic wheat hexaploids have shown resistance to major wheat diseases and tolerance to abiotic stresses such as drought, waterlogging and salinity. This study was conduct to assess heat tolerance and genetic variation among twenty-four heat tolerant synthetic wheat lines in order to identify new sources of diversity that could accelerate the development of improved wheat genotypes better suited to meet the challenges posed by changing climate in India.

Summary
Improving the nutritional quality of food is an important step in addressing worldwide health problems. A field experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of either Se (0.03mM sodium selenate) or Si (1.5mM potassium silicate ) on the yield components as well as grain and straw qualities of rice cv. Giza 177 and cv. IET 1444 exposed to water deficit condition. Drought stress was imposed by withholding water (irrigation every 10 days). The plants were left to grow under the various treatments for five months. At full maturity (5 months after sowing) the experiment was terminated and grain quality in terms of grain appearance (grain length L, grain breadth B and L/B ratio), cooking quality (amylose content and water uptake WU) as well as nutritional (carbohydrates, proteins oil, phenols and flavonoid contents) and anti-nutritional (phytic and oxalic acids) values was estimated.

Summary
In this paper we present a simulation study to investigate the influence of the pattern of missing values on the efficiency of the expectation-maximization AMMI (EM-AMMI) algorithm. Four scenarios are considered: one with cells missing completely at random; and three patterns with cells not missing at random (block-diagonal pattern, diagonal pattern and block-diagonal pattern with checks). The results are compared in terms of precision to estimate the missing cells and genotype selection.
